Twin Towers Go Global is pleased to announce Arnold Korotkin as the second confirmed jury member for our ongoing open call, a competition where people imagine the Twin Towers rebuilt around the world. Korotkin possesses a compassionate and uniquely informed insight into the issues that surround 9/11, and Twin Towers Go Global is honored to to have this perspective represented by him as a juror.
Since shortly after September 11, 2001, Mr. Korotkin has been maintaining the 9/11 listserv, a daily email compiling the latest news and information that touch upon any issue concerning the attacks. The listserv has become a unique historical archive, as well as an indispensable resource for the family members and loved ones of those lost on that terrible day. Mr. Korotkin cites his experiences as director of community building for the United Way of Passaic County as inspiration for his project. His interactions there with grieving families led him to realize his service could help people navigate tumultuous waters, by providing facts about news and resources as they became available. Korotkin has stated his belief in the empowering potential of information, and in his work as a self-described “cybrarian,” Korotkin makes a point of providing unbiased news.
In addition to the two or three hours a day he spends working on this much-appreciated and, to many, vital community service, Mr. Korotkin works as a professor of sociology at Montclair State University in New Jersey. He was presented with a humanitarian award by the National Air Disaster Alliance (NADA) in 2010. He is also a recipient of the NYU Silver School of Social Work ’2010 Distinguished Alumnus Award’ with an Honorable Mention for his service to the 9/11 community.
Last, but not least, his interest and appreciation of art is exemplified as he serves as a docent with the Montclair Art Museum (Montclair, NJ).
